Thelma Arlene (Harrison) Garrison

Miss Harrison was born January 18, 1916 in Denver, Colorado, daughter of David B. and Nancy Ann
(Hudspeth) Harrison. She received her higher education from Arkansas State Teachers College,
Conway, graduating in 1939, after which she accepted a position on the faculty of Hughes Elementary
School. She was a Hughes teacher for only one year, after which she married Cecil Ivan Garrison on
September 1, 1940. During World War II, Mrs. Garrison held a civil service position and was stationed
at Montgomery army base, Blytheville army air base, and Cochran field in Macon, Georgia. She and her
husband settled in Conway, Arkansas, where she was a public school teacher for thirty-four years and
a hostess for the athletic dorm at the University of Central Arkansas. During this time, she completed
her masters degree at UCA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conway for over sixty
years, served in many capacities with the church, and was a volunteer at Conway Memorial Hospital
where she received countless awards for service. Mrs. Garrison died June 3, 2011, interment in Oak
Grove Cemetery, Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas.
