Mrs. Nelson was born in Woodruff County, Arkansas, daughter of James Robinson Taylor and Emma
(Dallas) Taylor. She received the Batchelor of Science in Education Degree from Arkansas State
Teachers College in Conway and accepted a position as home economics instructor for the Hughes
School. She married school superintendent Roy M. Nelson on August 9, 1939, and with the exception
of two or three years, she served on the HHS faculty until retirement. In addition to teaching home
economics, Mrs. Nelson also taught science and served as the cafeteria supervisor and dietician. She
earned the Master of Science in Education Degree from State College of Arkansas (now the University
of Central Arkansas, Conway). Mrs. Nelson retired in 1976, and she passed January 1, 1995, with
interment in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.
