| Earl Braxton Bowdoin September 23, 1900 – February 23, 1993 Superintendent of Schools Tenure: 1929-30? |
| Mr. Bowdoin was born September 23, 1900, in Jefferson County, Alabama, son of Isaac B. and Mary Susan (Hardy) Bowdoin. He married May 25, 1919 in St. Clair County, Alabama, to Ophelia Harris, and they moved to Arkansas, where he received his advanced education at the University of Arkansas. It is known that he served as the Hughes Superintendent of Schools by his inclusion in the 1930 U.S. Census for Hughes, in which his occupation is listed as school superintendent. He is also referenced in the November 26, 1929, edition of The Hughes Outlook, a copy of which is accessible on the History of Hughes, Arkansas Public School site. By 1940, Mr. Bowdoin and his family had moved back to Alabama and were living in Dunnavent, Shelby County. He had apparently left the field of education, as evidenced by his occupation being listed in the 1940 census as rural mail carrier. Mr. Bowdoin died February 23, 1993 in Leeds, Jefferson County, Alabama, interment in Dunnavant Community Cemetery, Shelby County |
