| Miss Gillespie was born in Tate County, Mississippi, to Coma Clemons Gillespie and Rosa Vertna (Puryear) Gillespie, and she was an HHS graduate, possibly with the Class of 1925. Miss Gillespie received her first advanced degree from Memphis State College, and by 1930 she was a public school teacher at Heth. Miss Gillespie began teaching 3rd grade at Hughes around 1940, a position she held until her marriage to Russell H. Hardy on March 1, 1946 at West Memphis. She acquired a Master of Arts Degree from Memphis State in 1960. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy settled in Germantown, Tennessee, where she died in March 1985, burial place unknown. |
